About Me
Taylor Bower (he/him) is a graphic designer based in Virginia. He is a senior pursuing a BFA in Art and Visual Technology with a concentration in Graphic Design from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. His graphic design journey began in high school when he was accepted to the Digital Art and Design program at Chesterfield Career and Technical Center, located in Chesterfield, VA. In his two years there, Bower learned how to create designs in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, obtaining certifications for both. At George Mason, he uses these skills as a solid foundation for his current courses and other professional opportunities outside his academics. He excels in typography, layout design, and illustration.
When he is not working on his studies, Bower plays auxiliary percussion instruments with the Green Machine pep band, which has been named the top pep band in the country by the NCAA. As a scholarship member of the band, he performs with them at basketball games and other events in the community. The most notable venue Bower has performed at was the White House for its annual Easter Egg Roll. Bower is one of the founding members of Movie Club at Mason, which was founded in late 2023. Currently, he serves as the graphic designer and social media manager. Along with assisting in planning club events, Bower creates logos, social media posts, posters, and other promotional materials for this student organization.
As a graphic designer, Bower values transparency and collaboration. He believes that designers should work closely with clients and establish an open line of communication to get the best results. Bower’s source of inspiration comes from his love of music and the environment around him. He is not a typical college student, as he prefers big band, easy listening, and soul over modern music. Being a percussionist shapes his view on design, as both require a sense of accuracy and uniformity while also being creative. Similar to graphic design, percussion has fundamentals, known as rudiments, that can be manipulated into something new and exciting in the same way graphic design has its basic forms and shapes that can be explored and altered. His friends, family, and anything he may encounter can come into play with his designs. Bower is surrounded by artistic and musical individuals, and they are a source of new ideas for his creations. He aspires to have a career that intertwines percussion and graphic design.
